Sixth Roth Hero of the Week Chosen by Roth Staffing Companies for Mentoring Children Through Performing Arts

Kameko Ogg, a coworker of the Torrance, California branch of Ultimate Staffing Services (a specialized business line of Roth Staffing Companies), is Roth Staffing Companies’ sixth Roth Hero of the Week.

In her spare time, Kameko serves as Artistic Director of Culture Shock, an elite dance group that helps kids in underserved communities utilize dance and music to express creativity, enhance self-esteem, and learn teamwork, independence, and responsibility.   Throughout the past six years, Kameko has devoted hundreds of hours to everything from spearheading Culture Shock’s administrative needs to teaching the organization’s mission and core values to members.

One of her greatest impacts arises from her role as a Troupe Buddy (role model/mentor) to several children in the group.  Kameko assists her mentees with school work, helps develop their dance skills, and arranges fun shopping outings and sleepovers.  She has even promised her mentee of four years that she would remain with Culture Shock until the girl turned 18 in 10 years.

“When I first began dancing, I had a great mentor,” says Kameko. “They inspired me to lead others and help others through the arts.  At Culture Shock, we’ve seen the many benefits that kids, particularly in underserved communities, can experience through dance and music.  Kids who participate in our programs do better in school and are more emotionally stable when they have an outlet for their creativity and are surrounded by Culture Shock members who care about their wellbeing.”

As an unpaid volunteer who oftentimes spends her own money to support Culture Shock, Kameko is responsible for organizing events, teaching choreography, fundraising, and completing community service projects.  Kameko’s dedication has helped countless children gain self-esteem, excel in school, and accomplish things in their life they never thought possible.  Roth Staffing Companies is honored to name her the sixth Roth Hero of the Week and award her a $1,000 cash prize to support her volunteer efforts.
