Staffing industry employment added 21,100 jobs this month, according to seasonally adjusted employment data released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). This is a .09% from March 2012 and an 8.7% increase from the same month in 2011.
BLS also reported that search and placement employment in March 2012 was up 1.7% from February 2012, totaling 277,100 for the month. In a year-to-year comparison, search and placement employment was up 7.5% from the same month in 2011. BLS only provides nonseasonal data estimates for search and placement firms, and reports lag by one month.
On a national level, nonfarm payroll employment in April rose by 115,000, and the unemployment rate was little changed at 8.1%.
Most employment growth in April was driven by new job creation in professional and business services, retail trade, health care, and manufacturing; declines were noted in transportation and warehousing.
