More Companies Using Social Media to Recruit

A new survey reveals that 92% of U.S. companies are using social networks and media to find talent in 2012 – a 14% increase from five years ago. The survey, conducted by Jobvite, a leading recruitment platform for the social Web, polled more than 1,000 human resources and recruitment professionals on their social recruiting activities and intentions.

According to the survey, LinkedIn continues to serve as the leading recruiting network, with 93% of survey respondents used this network. Facebook and Twitter, however, should not be underestimated. Adoption rates for Facebook and Twitter have increased in the past year – two-thirds of companies now recruit through Facebook and 54% use Twitter to find talent.

Jobvite also found that employers are paying attention to social media activity. Nearly three of four hiring managers and recruiters check candidates’ social profiles – 48% always do so, even if they are not provided. A majority of respondents (80%) reacted positively to seeing memberships to professional organizations and two-thirds like to see volunteering or donating to a nonprofit. More than half of those surveyed react negatively when seeing spelling or grammar mistakes in a social profile.

Overall, social recruiting has become an essential resource for companies. More than 7 of 10 employers reported successfully hiring a candidate through social media and 89% of companies report plans to increase hiring this year.
