7 Ways to Bring the Festive Spirit to the Office

With the holidays just around the corner, what better time to get into the festive spirit and bring everyone together in the office? With coworkers being remote, busy and focusing on year-end deadlines, now is a good time to take a breather and celebrate the year we’ve had together.

Whether it’s planning the annual company holiday party or celebrating with your team virtually, there are so many creative ways to spread the festive cheer with your peers! Bringing everyone together to take a break and mingle will also improve morale and increase engagement

7 Ideas to Get Festive with Your Team

Let’s get to planning and get the team together for some fun and festive activities. Here are seven ideas to help.

Idea #1: Secret Santa

Everyone loves a secret gift! If your team is interested, have people draw names to find out who they will be gifting to and set a budget cap. As coworkers receive their Secret Santa gifts, they will be left guessing who it is and excited to get a little gift delivered for the holidays.

You can host an informal meeting for everyone to guess and reveal their Secret Santas!

Idea #2: Holiday-Themed Contest

Another fun idea is to have a festive competition with your team or companywide. You could plan an ugly holiday sweater competition, a holiday-themed scavenger hunt, or a decorating contest.

This will surely get the whole team in the mood to get creative, be engaged and even get a little competitive.

Idea #3: Virtual/In-Person Party

Want to throw a party? This is the perfect time to celebrate! Get with the events team and plan an in-person holiday-themed party at the office to get everyone together! If your team is virtual, you can have a virtual party with games and encourage everyone to dress up, so they feel like they are at a party and not at home.

Depending on your budget, you can plan for a free lunch or dinner, plus raffles and other giveaways to make the event more exciting.

Idea #4: Share Traditional Recipes

Your grandma may have a special cookie recipe, or you might have stolen a delicious pie recipe from your mom – either one is sure to be a hit with your coworkers. Have an informal meeting to share recipes and the story behind them.

This is a great way to bond with your team and build stronger relationships as you get to know your coworkers better. Plus, it could serve as inspiration if you want to try something new this year!

Idea #5: Holiday Volunteering

The holidays are a great time to give back to your community. You can make this a team outing and find the local food bank or other opportunities to volunteer together. Volunteering is a great way to get involved and help people in need.

Plus, it also makes you feel good knowing you are giving back and supporting your community.

Idea #6: Exchange Cards

A simple but powerful gesture in sharing the holiday spirit – exchange cards with your team! These could be online or mailed but will put a smile on someone’s face regardless.

Write a sweet note or use this as an opportunity to give recognition for your coworkers’ hard work and dedication during the year.

Idea #7: Decorate!

If you are in the office, take some time to decorate the space and get your whole team in on it! This would be a fun opportunity to bring the team together and collaborate on something outside of the regular projects and tasks. Depending on budget, you can play around with options like battery-powered lights, tinsel and cute ornaments.

For the remote workers, you can create exciting backdrops and decorate your work-from-home space to show off during your meetings!
